juwon ogungbe voice

Juwon Ogungbe is also a classical singer of baritone range. After performing in several self composed music theatre pieces, Juwon joined Abbey Opera for several years, where he was introduced to opera stage craft. He has since performed with many English opera companies, including Aldeburgh Productions.

Having built an extensive repertoire of baritone opera roles, Juwon has also performed an eclectic range of art songs in song recitals. These include works by American, Russian. French, Italian, German, English, Argentine and Nigerian (Y oruba) composers.

To mark the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of Slave Trade Act in 2007, Juwon sang a concert of songs by Ignatius Sancho, the first black composer to have his works published, for BBC Radio London at the British Library. This performance is possibly the only recording of Sancho’s songs that can be found on the world wide web.
